IBM and Veolia have teamed up to offer smart cities services to municipalities. The first products — smart water services — will incorporate IBM’s Intelligent Water software, which uses big data, and provide a system that integrates, optimizes and analyzes all data related to water management.

The new systems for water are currently under development in Lyon, France, and Tidworth, England, where Veolia is providing water and wastewater management services. By integrating data across municipal water management systems and applying advanced analytics to spot trends, patterns, make predictions and provide a systems-level view of operations, Veolia says it can help cities more efficiently manage water, reduce waste and better control costs.

Also as part of the partnership, Veolia and IBM will introduce digital products and services for energy management and waste management.

The digital water product is immediately available from Veolia. The energy and wastewater products are expected to be available in 2015.
